The Spiritan Media is an Online platform owned by the Congregation of the Holy Ghost Fathers and Brothers (Spiritans) a Roman Catholic Congregation of Priests, Brothers and Lay Associates, founded in 1703 by a young French nobleman – Claude Poullart des Places – who gave up the practice of law to study for the priesthood. He founded a community for young men who wished to become priests and dedicated it to the Holy Spirit.

About 150 years later, also in France, Francis Libermann, a converted Jew, started another religious family: The Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The two congregations, both dedicated to the evangelization and service of the poor, later became one: The Congregation of the Holy Spirit under the protection of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Why Spiritan Media?

Our lives are full of stories beginning from our families, Religious, and social cultural settings.  We as Spiritans, a family united in One Heart and One Soul just like the apostles of old, we also have our story to tell which cuts across our past, present and the future events. We do this to preserve and transmit the tradition handed down to us by our ancestors.

As a Religious Congregation, we are dedicated to the service of the poor carrying the gospel where the Church finds difficulty in sending missionaries. This exposes us to various cultures of the world full of wonderful experiences which builds and strengthen us in the missions. To make it more interesting, there is a need to gather the experiences for future use especially for those coming behind us.

In addition, keeping with the Jesus’ injunction of; “Go therefore make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. And that of the church today where St. John Paul II in his document of 2003 encouraged Catholics to use the internet to proclaim the gospel but with caution the about the dangers that will come out in the process

Pope Benedict XVI, added his voice by saying that the Church “cannot allow its message to be outside the spaces in which numerous young people navigate in search of answers and of meaning for their lives, you must seek ways to spread voices and images of hope in new formats.”

Pope Francis also in his view considered modern communications as “a gift of God which involves a great responsibility,” that “the Internet could be used to build a society which is healthy and open to sharing”. Also “Social networks can facilitate relationships and promote the good of society, but at the same time warned that they can also lead to further polarization and division between individuals and groups,”

From the foregoing the Spiritans deemed it fit to explore internet to tell their story, as well as proclaim the goodness to the people they serve. This will be made visible through the Facebook, YouTube and a website, were we periodically broadcast our events through an Online Radio, publication of books, articles, news are the world were we work and more…
